This course provides a practical introduction to some of the most common mental health issues encountered by young people, and explores ways in which we can promote emotional and psychological well being. It is suitable for teachers, lecturers and support staff who would like a better understanding of these issues and how to support young people effectively.The course includes four informative modules and two tutor-marked assignments to check your understanding. All tutors are experienced counsellors who have training and experience in working with young people.
Study topics include: defining mental health; recognising signs and symptoms; common mental health issues in young people; unidentified developmental disorders; case studies; supporting young people with mental health issues; sources of support; when and where to refer; promoting emotional and psychological well being. Includes all study materials, course textbook, Promoting Emotional Well Being of Children and Adolescents and Preventing their Mental Ill Health, and full tutorial support.
Students have up to twelve months to complete this course, allowing them to work through the modules at their own pace.
Students who successfully complete the course are awarded a certificate of course completion recognising their achievement.
