Many young people today are in crisis, experiencing serious challenges that make it almost impossible for them to participate fully in school life. This course provides a guide for teachers and staff, introducing key issues and providing practical guidelines for supporting these young people. It also explores the principles of serious crisis management. It is suitable for teachers, lecturers and support staff who would like a better understanding of these issues and how to support young people effectively.The course includes four informative modules and two tutor-marked assignments to check your understanding. All tutors are experienced counsellors who have training and experience in working with young people.
Study topics include: understanding crisis; the impact of trauma; coping with high levels of stress; bullying; drugs, alcohol and sexual health; gang culture; an introduction to ptsd; anxiety and depression; families in crisis; young people in care; homelessness; supporting young people in crisis; sources of support; when and where to refer; promoting well being; second-hand impact of crisis - caring for your own well-being. Includes all study materials, course textbook, Helping Young People to Beat Stress: A Practical Guide, and full tutorial support.
Students have up to twelve months to complete this course, allowing them to work through the modules at their own pace.
On successful completion of the course students are awarded a certificate of course completion recognising their achievement.
