managing challenging behaviour

This course is designed to help students develop their own practical approach to improving student behaviour, depending on the age-group of pupils and context within which they work. It has a strong focus on practical approaches, but also explores underlying theories, through a range of real-life practical examples. It is suitable for both teachers and support staff who would like to develop a more consistent and effective approach to behaviour management.

The course includes four informative modules and two tutor-marked assignments to check your understanding. All tutors are experienced educators with specific experience and training in behaviour management issues.

Study topics include: defining positive and negative behaviours; causes of challenging and obstructive behaviour; identifying underlying problems; identifying and managing low-level disruption; behaviour and age group; exploring theories - applied behavioural analysis, cognitive-behavioural approaches, systems theory and others; lessons from NLP; managing behaviour in groups; working with parents. Includes all study materials, course textbook, Classroom Behaviour. Second Edition: A practical guide to effective behaviour management and colleague support, and full tutorial support.

Students have up to twelve months to complete this course, allowing them to work through the modules at their own pace.

On successful completion of this course, students are awarded a certificate of course completion recognising their achievement.
