According recent figures over 3% of school-age children experience bereavement, with many more experiencing loss of some kind. This course is designed to provide teachers and support staff with the understanding and strategies to support children experiencing loss and bereavement. It also explores how to develop a co-ordinated response within school The course includes four informative modules and two tutor-marked assignments to check your understanding. All tutors are qualified counsellors and have experience in educational settings too.
Study topics include: theories of loss; understanding bereavement; children's understanding of death at different ages; other experiences of loss; supporting a child who has experienced loss; integrating loss into the school curriculum and cross-school policies; understanding cultural aspects of bereavement. Includes all study materials, course textbook, Supporting Young People Coping with Grief, Loss and Death, and full tutorial support.
Students have up to twelve months to complete this course, allowing them to work through the modules at their own pace.
On successful completion of the course students are awarded a certificate of course completion, recognising their achievement.
