This course covers the theory section of the RFS level 2 certificate. It includes 12 modules and 12 assignments that together provide comprehensive coverage of the RFS syllabus. At the end of the course you will be awarded a Learning Curve Certificate of Course Completion. You will also be ready to sit the theory part of the RFS Level 2certificate in Arboriculture. (There is an additional fee for the examination.) Your tutor will provide personal support and advice to help you complete your assignments and prepare effectively for the exam. Students have up to three years to complete this course, allowing them to work through the modules at their own pace. On average, however, it takes students around 12 months to complete the course, based on 3 hours study time per week.
Study topics covered include: soil formation, structure and physical characteristics; soil water; the history of woodland/forestry cover in Great Britain from 1600 A.D.; ecology and woodland ecosystems; tree structure and physiology, causes of ill health and treatment; selection, supply, planting and aftercare of woody plants; tree surgery operations; health and safety issues; equipment maintenance; tree inspections; trees and the law.
